"When I was a kid, I wanted to be Cher. I was 10 years old when I told my mother I would be a musician until I couldn't be, then I went to see Sonny & Cher @ the Ottawa Civic Center, I broke free from my brother and bolted over the aisles with him upon my heels to the very front of the stage. He grabbed me and picked me up, no doubt wanting to kill me, when Cher grabbed my hands while singing "Halfbreed". She was a profusion of white feathers and glamour and that was IT for me. My fate was sealed."
"Creativity and originality are not a choice, they are a given."
Kim created Doo-A-Little Music Company to express her own originality.
It has taken on many eras over the years, starting with the Celtic Music of her youth in Nova Scotia, to the days of singing country music, being a blues and jazz diva, and performing as a solo artist.
Many styles have influenced her, but ultimately roots music and big, fat voices drive her.
She counts among her influences traditional blues and country, 70's rock, and rhythm and blues from the Stax & early Motown era. The voices of Ann Wilson, Bessie Smith, Patsy Cline, Eva Cassidy, Karen Carpenter & Janis Joplin resonate deeply with her, because in her own words, "They were are unique unto themselves."
The year of 2007 is going to be spent looking for and co-writing 12 new songs for an upcoming recording opportunity.
